VENTURA, CALIF. - August 7, 2003 - NASA recently announced Visual Concepts, LLC, based in Ventura, Calif., will provide technical management services for creating next generation software, pioneering the path to more interactive, graphical displays between astronauts in space, the agency and to the public. Visual Concepts is partnering with HPN Software Consultant, Inc., of Houston, Tex. to provide these advanced solutions.

The projects, spearheaded out of Visual Concepts' Northern Los Angeles offices, will include three specific areas:

• Mission Control Center Local Area Network (LAN) Evaluation and Replacement
  
• Visualization/Test Facility for Mission Control Center System (MCCS)
  
• Motion Tracking/Capture Project
  

The goal of these projects is to introduce new technologies to support the NASA primary mission objectives and to support astronauts, flight control planning, training, and operations.

For the Mission Control Center LAN Replacement project, the team will conduct applied research, offer technical solutions, provide technical support and develop the necessary computer software and supporting hardware to make mission programs and processes easier, faster, and more economical without sacrificing quality and safety.

For the Visualization/Test Facility for MCCS project, the team will create, evaluate and procure intuitive, immersive displays to support NASA, astronauts, flight-control planning, training and operations.

For the Motion Tracking/Capture project, the team will research, evaluate, identify and implement a new motion capture system to replace an outdated technology. This application will be used on the space station and subsequent space shuttle endeavors. The main thrust of this project is to determine and implement the most effective application of advanced motion tracking for onboard exercise physiology for space station and shuttle.
